A reunion between Stanley Clarke and Thomas Lieber spawned the re-imaging of the Spellbinder Bass. Although birthed with the same classic ornamental design – this modern take is no mere remake.

The Story
It was 2001 when I received the call from Stanley Clarke. It had been many years since we had last spoke. The conversation was one to engage me and embark upon a New Spellbinder Bass Project.
The original intent was to create a platform to launch new electronics and pickup technology. So I created the 2001 Spellbinder Bass prototype. The result was the Original Spellbinder design with a new face, longer scale and a wood sound block construction design.
Very, very different from its predecessor!
Electronic/Pickups
A collaboration was formed with LightWave Systems and together we redesigned an Optic pickup and electronic system for the bass guitar unparalleled at the time!
Additional electronics were designed in collaboration with EBS and engineer Jim Walsh formally of EMG pickups.
